The Gothic cathedral is dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente and serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Milan. The cathedral ranks as the world’s fourth largest cathedral and took almost six centuries to complete after the ground was first broken in 1386. It is a staggering 157/515ft. long and 92 metres/302ft. wide, with the nave at its widest point spanning 16.75 metres/55ft. The main spire reaches a height of 106.5 metres/349 ft.
