Cool area, lots of little campgrounds around if that's your thing. I think most of them only charge about $4 a night. Unfortunately they don't have any free camping, and don't take kindly to just setting up in the woods. Be sure to hit up Meir woods if you visit.
On the day the rain stops within the week, ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to JURASSIC PARK. *Theme plays* The humid but crisp air, the ferns that overgrow beneath the forest floor, the staggering trees that remained dormant for centuries, this park awakes when the sun sets in the blanket of fog. All the nature here performs to the fares, I know you too will truly enjoy the park. Now please, gaze upon the photographs.
Loved the trails but the mountain roads with tight corners is a difficult drive to get there. Add in bikers along the narrow road... Ugh! We ended up at this state park because Muir Woods was full. Nice hiking trails. Not crowded. Enjoyed seeing the Mountain Theater! October 2018.
Beautiful state park with a number of good hiking trails. It's quite easy to hook trails into some of the other regional parks for exceptional day hiking through varied climate-types. Given the other park areas, you can do some good 2-day and 3-day backpacking trips in the area by booking a campsite at one of the on-trail campgrounds available. Great park that's close to the city yet an entire world if its own!
Great place to hike and do other outdoor activities. The trails seem to be well-maintained and is well-marked; we didn't have any issues. You can set your own hike/bike difficulty rating with the many different trail options and elevation levels. You are sure to encounter some wildlife on your trip. You'll also get some pretty amazing views. Unfortunately, we visited when there were some wildfires in the area just a couple of hours away which you will notice from the smokiness and red glare in the attached photos. One last note: If you're afraid of heights, some of the trails along the edge of the mountain might be extra challenging.
