Houghton Mill is one of the oldest operating water mills on River Great Ouse. The mill dates back to somewhere around 974 and is housed in a building that towers 5 stories high and dates back to the mid-18th century with additions made in 19th and 20th century. The mill runs on every Sunday and bank holidays from March to October. Houghton Mill also houses an exhibition that showcase the late 19th century and the early 20th century paintings that portray St Ives, Houghton Mill, as well as the surrounding area as to how it really was hundreds of years ago. A tour around the mill would give you the chance to observe how things work in a water mill and is an interesting experience.
