Kobe Beef Kaiseki 511, Minato Reviews
Phenomenal food and service. Staff is very respectful, timely, and speak sufficient English for foreigners. I read about this place online and had to check it out myself. Did not make a reservation but they were able to accommodate me despite it being dinner around 8pm. They have two courses: a Japanese style course and a Western style course. Being a foreigner to Japan myself, I had to go with the traditional Japanese course. The way they incorporate different parts of the Kobe beef in each dish was very creative and they explain to you each dish as well as the best way to eat it. The Kobe beef itself was outstanding (I had mine cooked medium rare which is usually what the chef prefers.) Probably the best steak I've ever had! It has this nice buttery taste that melts in your mouth and is extremely tender. The atmosphere was nice and intimate with dividers available to shield you from the other tables. They even give you a souvenir when you leave, although I'm not sure if they normally do this to all customers or if this was a special case since I was a foreigner. Overall though, amazing restaurant and one of the best dining experiences I've had! Would highly recommend for locals and foreigners alike! Will definitely return when I come back to Japan!
We visited the restaurant during our honey moon and it was a very good experience! We chose the traditional menu and it was the best idea. It's a perfectly well balanced menu that enhances the main course: a cut of the highest quality Kobe Beef. Also the staff is extremely friendly, caring and nice. They explained us every course and we appreciated it a lot! So I totally recommend Kaiseki 511 if you're visiting Tokyo and want to try this special meat.
The lunch sets are a steal! Price is amazing for Kobe beef. The beef is tender and juicy, the side dishes compliments perfectly. What was most interesting was the soy sauce foam which looked like a tiny yellow sponge.
Extremely over-hyped. It's good, but it wasn't amazing. Booked a reservation online, very simple to do. I found the dessert to be the best thing on the menu. The Kobe Beef was crispy on the outside and slightly tender on the inside, maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much as I prefer my meat tender all the way through. If you're only planning on going to Tokyo, then try this place for the Kobe Beef, but if not, try a different restaurant in the Kansei (Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto..) region. Servers were very nice and explained the dishes, made you feel very welcomed into the restaurant. If I were to come again, I wouldn't order the kaiseki.
This is by far one of the better restaurants I have ever visited. We arrived dressed like hobos, and were in true japanese style treated like royalty. In the end we settled for an eight course meal together with a bottle of Chasse-Spleen (2008, perhaps, I can't recall unfortunately). I can't honestly say that I found every single one of the eight courses to be memorable, but the most glorious part of the meal, a solid piece of 5-11 graded Kobe beef was quite simply stunning. It's worth the trip.
