It is one of the several lakes of the city and especially one of the 3 sailing lakes of the city apart from Harriet and Calhoun. The lake was earlier known as Amelia Lake after the name of Captain George Gooding’s daughter Amelia. The name was later on changed to honor Nokomis who was the grandmother of Hiawatha.

This oval shaped lake has a scope for many activities other than just fishing or swimming. You can enjoy walking, running, softball, cycling and so many other activities in the lake park. The twin beaches with fine quality sand make the place look even more charming. There are also a number of colorful fishes in the lake.

Lake Nokomis Reviews & Ratings

  • One of my favorite lakes in Minneapolis! So relaxing and beautiful view. Worth visiting.

  • This beach is great. The combo of shaded tree area and full on sun sand is awesome. Also they have sandcastle which can be a little spendy but reliable taste. Try not to hit it at peak times otherwise the line gets long. All in all the Nokomis beach club is a win all summer long.

  • Great place to spend your time during a warm weekend.

  • Beautiful area, right off of cedar and 62.

  • Clean park, good fishing, couple places to swim.
