This waterfall located downtown of Minneapolis in the north eastern part was the only natural waterfall at the time it was formed. Later it was replaced by a concrete apron as the falls had partially collapsed in 1869. The name of this was given to honor the great St. Anthony of Padua. It was later enhanced with a modern system of locks and dams that define it now. It was done to expand scope of activities of the city and also to utilize the water of the falls.

The falls was not only a place of recreation but also helped the many industries that utilized the water as well as the hydro power of this fall. Among these the main industry was the Flour Milling one. At that time Minneapolis was referred to as the “flour Milling Capital of the World”.
