Great Patriotic War Museum - Review
The Great Patriotic War Museum is a tribute to the German-Soviet war that sprung up after the end of the Nazi occupation. The museum was opened almost immediately after Minsk was liberated from the Nazis. This was the first museum to open during the war which it represented. Displays are divided among the 24 exhibition halls in the building. The main display sections the Battles in the Westerly Direction, the German-Nazi occupation in Belarus, the From Home to the Front, War Actions of the Red Army etc. There are more than 150 thousand objects up on display here. The museum staff also carries out research about the Red Army, the anti-fascist activities carried out by the citizens of Belarus and the Auschwitz death camp. Great Patriotic War Museum, Minsk Reviews
It was an awesome experience. Breathtaking structure. Very informative with life like structures depicting the war. The English audio guide is cool even though almost every exhibit was described in English. The surrounding park plus the victory fountain was nice too.
One of the first places you should definitely see, visiting Minsk! History is something everyone should be familiar with! This place can not leave you indifferent and emotionless! Some things are very interesting and exciting, some - hard to imagine and understand.
A school parade was on close by, the patriotic music loud and the flags, held by each of the school kids, fluttering in the wind. A lovely backdrop on an excellent museum. The museum is new and expansive that takes the tourist through Belarus in the Second World War. There is everything from dioramas to weapons and even a few tanks. All material is in English and very extensive at that. The addition of an exhibit about “the raping of nanjing”, the Japanese army’s cruelty inflicted on the Japanese was brutal and fascinating.
A really great museum that keeps your interest all the way through. Lots of different styles of presentation. Very informative.
Very informative. Interesting exhibitions. Beautiful monument, especially the domed room with the flags and names. Lovely/touching statue outside of building of soldier & his girl. If you are visiting Minsk - a wonderful museum to learn about. Belarus and WWII.
