The National Historical Museum of Belarus began as a small collection of Belarusian objects and culturally significant artefacts in 1919. With time, both its collection and stature grew and by the end of the century, it was recognised as a national museum. Today, there are around 4 hundred thousand objects of historic and intrinsic value in its collection. Not all of these are on display all at once. The museum’s permanent exhibit features key archaeological finds from Belarus, precious metals and gems, pagan religious objects, and even profound artwork from the 19th and 20th century. Its other artefacts are displayed according to the collections and events in Belarus. Artefacts are classified into collections like manuscripts, numismatics, clothing, arts, accessories etc. All the objects owned by the museum aim to educate visitors about the evolution of Belarusian culture from ancient times. The museum has five branches that deal with cinema, environment, politics and theatre, respectively. Each of these branches have separate premises dedicated to their displays.
