The Upper Town area is actually the centre point of the historic city of Minsk. This is the foundation of the city and the first inhabitants of Minsk resided here. The first thing you will notice about this area is the construction style of the houses in this area. They mostly are white buildings with sloping roofs in red, green or black. The Svislach river snakes on the borders of the Upper Town. This area is best explored in the heritage walk format. Most of the trails begin at the October Square and visit sights like the Republic Palace, Former Museum of the Great Patriotic War, Academy of Music, Marlinsk Cathedral, Town Council, Bernard Cathedral etc. The Upper Town is said to have been rebuilt plenty of times but the charms of a quaint European town are not lost in this area. Do keep an eye out for the various sculptures; they are reflections of pure Belarusian art.
