While walking on a tour of the Upper Town in Belarus, you will walk past the Vankovich House near the Zhuravinka restaurant. Though it cannot be seen prominently from the street, a glimpse of this fabulous house will make you stop for a moment and marvel at its beauty. Enter from the gate and you will realise the house is open for tourists. The Vankovich House is a branch of the National Art Museum of Belarus. Opened in the year 2000, this setup is a taste of Belarusian art in one of its best environments – a Belarusian nobleman’s house. The manor was constructed in the 17th century and was renovated from the inside before the museum opened its doors for the public. However, the charming atmosphere of the house has remained intact. A visit here is a lesson both in the country’s art and architecture. Amongst the prized displays are the paintings that were collected by the Vankovich family. These have been generously donated for public display.
