The quaint structure known as Drinnie’s Wood Observatory is a hikers delight in Mintlaw. The observatory was built in 1845 by Admiral Ferguson and the whole trail that leads up to this observatory is beautiful and calming. Once you reach here, you will be enchanted by its octagonal structure that is built with Harled brick, cornice, crenelated parapet and granite. You can reach the upper deck of the Drinnie’s Wood Observatory by twining stairs and enjoy fabulous views of the Forest of Deer and the adjoining countryside. The views from the top windows of this observatory are especially popular among locals and many of them make this structure a part of their regular walks.
