Yamazaki Distillery Reviews & Ratings
This place was so much fun to visit. If you can get tickets for a tour, do it! While I'm sure it would have been more fun if I understood Japanese, the English language guide (which you can download via a phone app now) gives you most of the information you need, and you get to visit all of the various production areas, which just smell heavenly. The whisky library is gorgeous and picturesque, and you could easily spend all afternoon there, sipping whisky from the tasting room. Gorgeous area and very nice people. Oh, one thing that I have to mention as I couldn't find information on it anywhere!: If you are bringing luggage, the distillery has quite a few large lockers in which you can store your bags. I was super concerned it wouldn't fit my 26 inch hard shell suitcase, but it totally did with room to spare.
Honestly, this is a very very cool distillery to check out and it has plenty of history behind it. The only one thing that kind of sucked for us was that due to maintenance, the distillery tour was closed to us even though we had called in advance and were told we could come for the tour by just walking in without a reservation(yeah that kind of sucked). On a brighter note, at the very least, we had the chance to go and check out their museum and whiskey tasting. You do have to pay for the tastings of whiskey but after having tried three of the more popular whiskeys, I walked out only having spent 1400 yen(so not too bad). Hopefully the next time we come back we really hope we’ll get the chance to do the tour. I would still recommend this place though, even if just for the museum.
Had an amazing time. Booked the museum as the tour was sold out. When I got there, I asked the lady to let me know if there were any cancellations as I was very keen on the tour. She came find me and I was able to join the tour. So lucky! Great tasting! Would wholeheartedly recommend! The only down is that they are sold out of their own whisky so I wasn’t able to buy any. That’s a shame!
Great place to visit if you are a whisky fan. Do note that they require pre-booking for their visits (which you can do online). Tours book out really quickly so plan your trip early. Go for the whisky tasting because I think its really worth it!
If you love japanese whiskeys you must come to the Yamazaki Distillery. There are 2 parts to this visit. If you wish to see the distillery process you need to pre-book and arrive on time, there is a small fee to pay as well. Otherwise you are free to enjoy the free museum and displays and also purchase tasting portions at the bar. It is such a wonderful experience here and I strongly recommend a visit.
