Located in the Victorian precinct of Oamaru, Steampunk HQ is an art collaboration and a gallery that opened in 2011. With its range of contraptions and sculptures based on the theme of steampunk. These exhibits are accompanied by audio-visual installations in two darkened rooms. Outside, you are greeted by a coin-operated "steampunk" engine, complete with lights, engine, noises, and even fire breathing out of its chimney. Once inside, a theme of a dark post-apocalyptic vision of a future awaits you. Bizarre exhibits like gears, pipes, gas cylinders, skeletal sculptures and more.
