A museum which showcases the history of Mont St. Michel, you can see wax statues which depict the life in the abbey including Monks and later prisoners. The exhibits include elements which were used for torture during the medieval times. Not for the faint hearted, the place is enjoyed best if you know French.

If you love to get scared then simply walk through the exhibits here anyway.

  • Incredibly crowded, but an amazing monastic structure. If you can swing a hotel room on the Mont itself, that would probably be the best option. We ended up in a hotel 10km away - you would need to drive to the parking area, park there, walk to the (free) buses, and wait to get to the Mont. The downside is the restaurants on the Mont are all by definition tourist traps, a definite step down from French standards, but still (on an absolute scale) decent food.

  • Fantastic place. Just amazing! Better visit early in the morning. Almost no tourist that time and you can have an unbelievable breakfast there! Love, love, love it ! 🥰

  • This was one of the major highlights of our trip to France. So incredibly beautiful. We took out time to walk through, see as much of everything that we wanted to. So much history and beauty in one awe inspiring place.

  • The abbey is awesome but it is really to crowded!! It was hard to walk into the village and when we saw the queue to access the abbey, we decided to go back and visit something else. It's not worth it, you can't really enjoy a place in that way. We visited instead the place at the end of October and that was much better. I give two stars instead of one because we really enjoyed the cycling to the monastery, indeed we decided to go there by bicycle instead by car, avoiding traffic and enjoying the country side. There is a specific cycle path and you can park your car in the nearby towns.

  • Breathtaking views, interesting history, and beautifully maintained castle/fortress/monastery. We also experienced an enjoyable tour in English. Totally enjoyed the visit.
