Museum Of History - Review

A museum which showcases the history of Mont St. Michel, you can see wax statues which depict the life in the abbey including Monks and later prisoners. The exhibits include elements which were used for torture during the medieval times. Not for the faint hearted, the place is enjoyed best if you know French.

If you love to get scared then simply walk through the exhibits here anyway.

  • I did dream about this place for a long time. Finally I decided to go, actually I drove my motorbike from Ireland. I spent at Mont St Michel two days , enjoy watching tide coming and going, walking moving sand and thinking about people who lived there. I went to walk village as well, there were many kiosk and good restaurants. I had my the fist oysters in my life there. Delicious they were. The place is full of history and magic. Will go there again.

  • Beautiful place to visit if you have a chance! You can get there by walk from closest town which is nice when it's sunny or can take the complimentary shuttle bus service. During the summer time, they have light show inside the cathedral from 19:30 onwards which was great to see. €5 more than the daytime rate but was worth it. Definitely the most photogenic island I have visited so far!

  • Absolutely incredible. Well worth the hassle of getting out here if you are at all in the region. Prepare to take a ton of photos because spectacular views are everywhere you turn! We arrived at 7:20 pm on a Thursday in August and lined up for the night tour - line was not long and moved fast. Line up on the right side of the steps if you need to buy a ticket like we did (you don't have to buy them in advance). The night tour was so cool - fun to explore the many areas of the crypt, abbey, terraces, grounds, etc., at our pace.

  • Beautiful site! We enjoyed a brilliant guided tour through the Abbey. The guide spoke clearly and slow enough so that even I (with my rather poor knowledge of French) was able to understand most of the details and jokes. I'd definitely recommend doing that, since there's quite some interesting facts to learn about the construction and history of Mont Saint-Michel!

  • Of course it is wonderful. To experience it best, get to the free bus terminal at 7:30am and have the near empty streets to yourself. Soak up the views before going to the abbey by 9am when it opens its doors. Highly recommend you do the audio tour, it takes about 2 hours. By then the Mont is packed with tourists so we had a coffee and walked back across the bridge to land.
