The gigantic sculpture of Neptune overlooks the Italian riviera town of Monterosso del Mare making it a jaw dropping scene in Cinque Terra. This colossal structure was designed and built by Arrigo Minerbi, the Jewish Italian sculptor, who is also credited with the making of numerous cathedrals and for his bronze door on the Duomo in Milan. This concrete built sculpture was heavily destroyed by the allied bombing runs but still stood high in its position. Due to this it became the symbol of the town, marking resilience. At first you will find it to be merged in the rocky cliffs, however, its identity stays quite visible and stark if you look carefully.

Il Gigante Reviews & Ratings
Lipstick on a stinky pig! Staff was very nice. Place appears very clean with very small rooms. (Pae Ve Ciu room) PROBLEM - plumbing issues. Shower drain emits RAW SEWER ODORS that are DISGUSTING. Shower floor has been neatly covered with boards suggesting an effort to hide evidence of sewerage backups perhaps resulting from improperly installed drain - rather than repairing the plumbing which would cost more. Same plumber must have installed the sink drain that doesn’t unplug to allow sink to drain as it should. Only door/window from room to outside patio only opens partially allowing minimum fresh air. SEWER ODORS seem to come and go depending upon the wind (fairly close to the beach). Certain lights in bathroom function intermittently. The STENCH outweighs the pretty appearance. Extremely bad experience. (Rick Steves appears to have been duped into recommending this place. Must have been given a different room.) Lying in bed typing this review, unable to sleep due to the odor. Avoid this place - especially this room!
So far best sleep we've had in Italy. Nice breakfast with a varied selection. Friendly staff
Best place to stay in Cinque Terre
