Monteverde Butterfly Garden - Review

What’s not to love of a place that is an absolute butterflies’ galore?! It gets better even better once the guide starts enlightening you about every aspect of this garden. It may appear like a place that is pretty passive and not very entertaining, only till you find out how entertaining it actually is. Look forward to tours that despite lasting for a minimalistic one hour, leave you highly enlightened about the various bug life of Costa Rica. Lots of insects, caterpillars, arachnids and more await your exploration!

Monteverde Butterfly Garden , Monteverde Reviews

  • Great place to spend some time, especially with kids. Amazing to see all those butterflies flying around (and sometimes on our hands, arms and shirts)! The people there are really knowledgeable, and we loved their explanation and seeing the bugs and tarantula! One ticket is valid for all the days you spend in Monteverde!

  • Superb encounter with multiple varieties of butterfly, frogs, birds, my favorite the hummingbirds...paths for trekking next to way waterfalls, an absolute astonishing park, well organized and great staff to explain and guide visitors

  • Nice place to explore butterflies We spent a couple of hours in this garden (on the way back to town after visiting Monteverde Reserve). They have several types of butterflies there (not too many, maybe around 10?). We were lucky - it was a very sunny day and butterflies were active. The guided tour is interesting, we learned some facts about local butterflies and also got to see caterpillars of various butterflies + some interesting plants (like Dutch pipe and passion flower). After the guided tour in the garden we also attended a presentation/demonstration of some other Costa Rican insects - some really cool leaf-looking bugs, tarantula, centipedes, etc. We were relieved to learn that none of CR creatures have poison strong enough to kill a human being (even scorpions) - what a relief . I would say visiting at least one butterfly garden during your CR trip is a good idea as you can see those beautiful creatures close and personal (picking a sunny day would certainly help to see them active). We enjoyed our visit - staff was very friendly and helpful, and the owner helped us to order a taxi to go back to town.

  • Very interesting tours. Really nice and helpful guides. Really good choice for families with children.

  • Great place to learn about the most numerous creatures on the planet. So fun, it's like going to a comedy club! 😀
