Fortezza Di Radicofani Reviews & Ratings
An impressive ancient fortress with wonderful views. Great to walk around and climb the tower. There is a cafe here that we did not try, but looked pleasant. Tickets are cheap. Radicofani is a beautiful town and this is a lovely sight to visit while there.
This is a great and impressive fortress with many levels of stone walls and a high tower from which you have a breathtaking view. Inside the tower there are a few charts and showcases explaining the history of the fortress. When we visited mid-June there were only a few people, so we practically had our own fortress for an hour ;-) It was a hot day in the valleys (30°C) but the cool winds on the mountain made it very pleasant.
Beautiful! I love that you can just walk though and without crowds. We were there only ones there when we went on a Saturday afternoon. Absolutely breathtaking.
Tremendous location for a fortress above the old road! The origin of the very top is interesting, as the fortress lies on the remnants of a volcanic neck - the centre of former volcano. Erosion has removed the majority of volcano, and only the central vertical harder rocks in the volcano 'shaft' are left here today. Also the other volcanos around here (Mt. Amiata) are long inactive.
Such a wonderful place to visit. The staff were very friendly, and the fort had amazing views from the top.
