Le Saint Bock, Montreal Reviews
Classic Montreal micro pub. These guys predate the beer revolution and will be there after the hype dies. They make great beer, period. Prices for beer are good too and the selection is vast ever changing and always well executed from my experience to date. Food is a bit pricey because of the area, but the quality is good too. Definitely a regular visit. Lots of comfy seating, mostly friendly staff. Can get pretty busy and crowded for obvious reasons. Doesn't seem to get particularly loud though.
Took a while to get a seat, but they ended up giving us a complimentary shooter for the wait. Lots of beer selection, imagine francophone sports bar mixed with lots of beer selection, and while that sounds like a night out with the boys, beers aren't exceptionally cheap, so mostly beer drinking couples or double dates. I guess a good place to go on a double date with your francophone girlfriend or boyfriend who's down to watch the hockey game kinda place? For what is worth, it's decent. Nachos were large. Almost too much cheese.
The beer selection was expansive, and the beers we ordered for our flight were either bang-on style or hovering near an acceptable flavor profile. There was plenty of seating, both inside and out, and the service was attentive and friendly. I will definitely leave this on my rotation when I find myself in this neck of the woods.
The good: Food was great along with the beer. The general ambiance if the place is also very nice. The weird: But I noticed them turning a lot of people away at the door despite there being a lot of seats available. These were not being reserved. You're only allowed to reserve before 4, but a group of 5 people were able to reserve 20 seats for hours on end because they were there. The bad: The service was rough, sometimes 30 minutes at a time without service. It will take quite awhile to get food. Servers will change on you without notice, which is a pain when nobody visits your table and you start tracking people who work there, only for them not to know who has your table right now.
Awesome beer selection. Has something for everyone. Good but typical pub food but as the name implies you should be here for the beer. Gets a little crowded at times, come early if you're a group.
