The Mount Royal Park with its small volcanic hill of the same name is a verdant landscape blessed with abundance of greenery. Designed by Frederick Olmstead, the Mount Royal Park started its journey in 1876 with a number of plans to be executed but many of them went in vain. Now there are two Belvederes including the semi-circular Kondiaronk Belvedere which overlooks the Downtown Montreal from the Mount Royal Chalet. The small artificial Beaver Lake is located in the heart of the Mount Royal Park around which lies a snow tube, cross country skiing trails, toboggan run, Smith House and a sculpture garden. The George Etienne Cartier Monument lies at the lower gradients of the park overlooking the Park Avenue. The lush woodland looks stunning during the autumn foliage and is a hotspot for hiking and cross country skiing.
