St-viateur Bagel, Montreal Reviews
Absolutely 100% worth the reputation. I did a bagel taste-test on my trip to Montreal and by far St Viateur came ahead. Nice little shop, absolutely delicious bagels, decent price point (about $10 for a dozen sesame), and very friendly staff. The young guy at the front with the mustache was very pleasant and patient. Unfortunately I only got to try two varieties (sesame and Flax) as I arrived there at night but they were the best bagels I've ever eaten, the sesame ones especially. Ended up returning and bought another dozen to freeze and take home with me. Definitely will return here.
The best bagels ever! Just enough crunch on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The perfect amount of seasoning on their everything bagels. Even has a hint of sweetness. We bought two dozens in one day. Our first time there we bought one, walked back for another, and came back in the afternoon to squeeze one more in. So good!
Bagels when fresh out of the oven are delicious. Got a sesame one around 3pm. No line then, and it was still hot. Good enough to just eat plain. It's still good when cooled, but just isn't the same. The rosemary one was interesting, seems like it would make a good savory sandwich. Cash only. $.95 a bagel. $5 for a half dozen.
These bagels live up to their reputation. We bought a dozen split between poppy seed and sesame seed. We ate a few of them straight out of the bag as we walked down St-Viateur back to St. Laurent. They were still warm out of the oven and delicious. They have a slight sweetness to them which us quite nice. I write this review as I eat a bagel with cream cheese from McDonalds which is, now, somewhat mundane. Recommended! Be aware - cash only!
Open on a Sunday evening so already it gets my vote. Had a line almost out the door which is usually a good sign. Very warm and amazingly tasty bagels. Only thing I wish is that they gave you the option of toasting, buttering, or adding spreads/meats to the bagels, but then it would probably have taken a lot longer and maybe they would've been less fresh. Warning: cash only.
