St-viateur Bagel, Montreal Reviews
Open on a Sunday evening so already it gets my vote. Had a line almost out the door which is usually a good sign. Very warm and amazingly tasty bagels. Only thing I wish is that they gave you the option of toasting, buttering, or adding spreads/meats to the bagels, but then it would probably have taken a lot longer and maybe they would've been less fresh. Warning: cash only.
When it comes to bagels, this place is the real deal. When you get them fresh, there's nothing that can match it. When you buy their cream cheese and smoked salmon and eat it right away, it's even better! Crisp outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Processed bagels don't have the same texture and density - I would recommend these bagels over the supermarket ones any day. If you're traveling and it's your last day before heading home, I would definitely buy a bag to bring back home.
Very good bagels. Nothing else. This is not a bagel restaurant - it's a bakery. You can get bagels (uncut though they will give you a plastic knife) and you can buy spreads separately (not made in house). Quality of bagels is great, but if you're looking for a quick bagel with cream cheese while on the go , this isn't it.
Pros: Bagels are always warm, fresh, and delicious! Cons: Although the sesame bagel is always fresh, the other ones such as whole wheat or all-dressed are not always fresh. We ensure that we get bagels from St-Viateur everytime we visit or pass by Montreal. The are crispy on the outside while soft and sweet on the inside. We always eat the fresh ones right away without anything. Once they are a day old then I usually sprinkle water on them and warm them up in the toaster. I have frozen them in the past and warmed them in the toaster oven directly from the freezer.
Good bagels. The cashier was very nice. You have to buy your own cream cheese or butter. Haven't seen so many bagels at once. Rosemary bagel was pretty good, all seed bagel was okay
