In the history of music, there have only a handful of artists that are widely associated with within the music listening community. One such artist was the lead singer of a classic rock British band- Freddie Mercury. You’ll have to look very hard to find someone who hasn’t belched out to ‘Radio Gaga’, or ‘I Want to Break Free’.
Dying a tragic early death, the late singer took to the city of Montreux and is said to have spent a lot of time here. Having recorded many a hits in the city’s Mountain Studios, Montreux is proud to acknowledge Mercury as one of their own. The Freddie Mercury Memorial Statue adorns the riverside of Montreux’s old market, in a classic Freddie signature pose.
The first weekend is September is regarded as Freddie Mercury Memorial Day and it’s a real treat to watch fans throng the statue and adorn it with flowers and garlands.
