The Blue Lake - Review

The large monomictic Blue lake is situated in an extinct volcanic maar and is linked to the Mount Gambier maar complex. It provides a completely different experience. The lake is make of four craters among which two have remained and two have dried up over the past 30 to 40 years. This happened after the water table dropped. The Blue Lake provides the local people with drinking water and is famous for its color change. From December to March it has a beautiful cobalt blue color and from April to November is has a much faded steel grey colored water.
