Umpherston Sinkhole - Review

The natural wonder of the sinkhole which is forged from millennia of acidic groundwater is an extraordinary thing to discover. It was created when the top of the chamber fell on the floor of the cave and it was ideal to turn it into a ‘sunken garden’. It is one of the Australia major tourist’s attractions and all those who visit Mount Gambier must visit here especially with their children.

Umpherston Sinkhole, Mount Gambier Reviews

  • Beautiful place. Easy to find. Stayed in Mount Gambier in the old prison there. The sinkhole is close by. Very different to anything I've ever seen so definitely worth the trip. You can walk down into the sinkhole and get some lovely photos. Highly recommended.

  • Always a pleasant spot to visit. Clean and gardens at the bottom are well maintained. Nice way to spend an hour or so..there is a kiosk on site and also a park and fee and just on the outskirts of main road in Mt Gambier..

  • Absolutely fantastic. Really enjoyed visiting here. We walked both right around it and down into it. Have a few seats and a very nice picnic area. Wandered around a good 20 minutes. Definitely recommend.

  • Definitely worth a look if you’re in Mount Gambier. Essentially a huge hole in the ground with a beautiful garden inside it. Pretty unique and in town so it’s an easy decision to make the stop. A good place to take family and safe for small children which is great as well.

  • The Sink Hole is definitely worth a look. Climb the steps and make sure you soak in the extraordinary view from inside/below. The grounds surrounding also offers a nice place to picnic with a set of swings.
