Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum - Review
The Prince of Wales Museum or the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalay, is a very rich and well known museum in Mumbai. Beautiful, manicured grounds surround this storehouse of history and culture
The museum houses many antique documents and objects from ancient Indian and foreign origin. It has the special handicrafts used in Indus Valley Civilization, many scrolled documents describing popular events of Gupta and Maurya periods. Art crafts from different countries like China are preserved here with lots of care. It contains an old map of Bombay explains a lot about the British age. Various objects and paintings from different times and places have been put up on display. The Natural History section contains replicas of mammals, fish, amphibians and much more. The entire museum is decorated with wooden and metal art works. The ammunition and artillery section has an impressive collection of ancient weapons. Most importantly, astonishing temporary exhibitions from around the world travel to this museum making it a very important hub.
History and art lovers will of course, love this place but it is also something everyone should visit, especially on a rainy day.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum, Mumbai Reviews
Good place to visit; also must see Is the sound show usually at an hourly interval and last show at 3.00pm... Museum closes at 6.00 pm.....Always watch out for visiting or sharing museum shows which are the best ......There is a canteen and washroom on the ground floor near the audio guide purchase section .....Audio guide may be used.. will set you back by 50 bucks Indian national ....For foreigners about 500 with 1000 bucks deposit .....Try to visit early in the day as the museum does not have A/C and can get very hot
It was earlier known as Prince William Museum. It is a huge museum with multiple floors and contains varied divisions inside it. The ticket is nominal. Before you enter the museum, there is a gift shop. After you enter, there is a small canteen to your left. From the entrance till the museum, you have to walk around 100 meters. It was raining when we went there. They also have umbrellas that we could use. You have to pay to click photographs. You can also book an audio tour. You need full day to enjoy the museum. I am not sure about the parking arrangements as we were driven there by a taxi.
Nice name to a previous Anglicized one. The garden is watered using rain water harvesting. Photos not allowed in some rooms. Photo gallery is easy to miss. It's one the top floor. Great building inspired both by Hindu and Muslim architecture.
Its very nostalgic for me being there after all these years! This was the first proper museum I'd ever seen and it hasn't lost its charm after all this time. Standing grand as a Georgian façade and beautiful grounds, the museum houses finest collections of natural history, arts and antiques. The second floor gallaries showcase the finest and the most beautiful china I've ever seen. The museum is very well maintained and the museum shop lets you buy quality stuff at good prices. A must visit place for all.
This is one of the best museum according to me. Covers a wide range of fields. It's large and will take 3_4 hours to explore whole museum . The exterior is beautiful too. If you're a student carry your Id proof, you might get discount.
