Built on the banks of the Arabian Sea in Colaba district, the Gateway of India is one of the special monuments built during the British period in Mumbai. The colossal structure was constructed in 1924 to welcome the King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai. The nearly 85 feet tall monument was built in basalt. It has four turrets which are the most prominent features of the monument. It lies at the end of the Chatrapati Shivaji Marg right next to the well-known Taj Hotel Mumbai. the place is undoubtedly one of the most iconic monuments in India.
