The Alter Nordfriedhof ("Old North Cemetery") is a former cemetery located in the Arcisstrasse in Munich, Bavaria. The construction here began in 1866 to designs by the city architect Arnold Zenetti. It is a place which reflects the typical Munich lifestyle. The proximity to the universities, the cultural district of Schwabing and the fact that the Old North Cemetery is the only green space in the urban district Maxvorstadt, leading to an unusual interaction. The Old North Cemetery is both rest and relaxation space, art and cultural historically significant cemetery with historic gravestones, as well as a meeting place, recreation and leisure space. It is also the burial ground for many graves from WW-II. It is a nice place for jogging in summers with the shade of the surrounding trees and nice spots to read books.
