Karls Gate is the reminiscent of the historic past in Munich that once protected the city with its four large towers as well as five smaller ones. Built between 1285 and 1347, this wall protected the city from the foreign invasion. Originally known as Neuhauser Tor, this gate was renamed in 1797 after Karl Theodor and stood close to the famous square Karlsplatz. This gate was integrated into the plans for the new square by adding wings to each side of the gate, creating a semi-circular square. This gate still stands a strong evidence of the past in modern Munich today.
