Marienplatz, Munich Reviews - Write a Review
Marienplatz is one of the most happening places in Munich. The street is full of enthusiasm. Unlike other parts of Munich, where people are found scarcely, this place has a good amount of public. There are some big shops in the market as well as some temporary shops of vegetables, fresh hot cookies, etc. There is a famous church in this market, which is both beautiful from outside and inside. Asians would love this place, as there is lot of public that they miss in the rest of the city.
A good starting point for all that Munich has to offer in the old city, where you can walk to many interesting places. Avoid restaurants at Marienplatz as they cater to tourists not repeat customers, and have poor service and mediocre food. Food money is much better spent walking 5 minutes in any direction.
This is the central of city and you can fine more attractive place by walking distance from here. The new town hall show dance in central tower everyday at 11:00 am and 12:00 noon till mid of November. This place also have shops, restaurants and a fountain where people throw coins, I asked one person why everyone throwing coin, he said I don't know I just saw people throwing coin so I did. Lolz and so I also throw few cents into fountain. Over all this place deserve more than one visit.
They have free walking tours that go from here every morning which I would 100% recommend. Also, make sure to be here on the hour to hear the music and see the figurines under the clock move. There's two 'performances' that each tell a story. For a different view over Marienplatz, pay a couple of Euros to climb the steps in St Peters Church. You get beautiful 360° rooftop views over Munich!!!
The architecture here is very impressive. It's sort of like a town square type area, with plenty of shops and eateries to be found nearby. Make this part of your "must see" list while in Munich!
