There is no way you can separate the beer culture from Germany. Munich revels in beer as Theresienwiese allows people to come and to get drenched in completely. Theresienwiese is the official ground for the world famous Oktoberfest that takes place in Germany every year. Covering an area of 420,000 square metres, this place is encircled by Ruhmeshalle and the Bavaria statue from the west and Esperantoplatz square from the east. Oktoberfest is celebrated every year to commemorate the event of the marriage of Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen and Crown Prince Ludwig I that took place in 1810. Do visit this famous area to have a deeper look into the beer culture of Munich that entrances many around the world.

  • When there is no Octoberfest, the Theresienwiese is also used for festivals like the Frühlingsfest in spring or the Tollwood in winter.

  • The location of Oktoberfest. I have been here twice and loved the atmosphere. Though it is nearly impossible to get a reservation, I can suggest that during the fest, if you reach by 10, you can find a few tents with seats to spare.

  • I have attended Oktoberfest three years in a row now and mostly enjoy it. I recommend using a guide (available on the site) to walk the grounds for a history lesson during the day. It's very interesting how the festival came to be and what it means for the city. It's not just all drunken tourists, there are some really great attractions as well.

  • The best campground ever! Why? This is the grounds for Oktoberfest. Very well coordinated and often cleaned despite the numerous people around. Also, paramedics are around to help the too drunk crowd if necessary. Lovely place.

  • Like the rest of Munich this place is full of history and it hosts the Oktoberfest, wich is a great and fun party. If you want to go with your children I would recommend to by the morning until the middle of afternoon. It could be quite crowded later than that. But it is truly an awesome place.

  • Beer is nice. It makes people like you. Also the crowd and people in traditional clothes make it worth seeing. All in all, it could be fun. But it is very painful to the wallet.
