Go through the park, and experience an esteemed walk through wildlife encounter. The animals roam around freely and often venture up close before shying away. Watch playful Bonnet and Lion tailed macaques loop around trees and sturdy Nilgiri goats dart to and fro. Hang out with species of bats and civets, which are small cats. The more predatory animals such as elephants, tigers, panthers and the sloth bear are viewed from afar. All this and much more at the Rajamalai (Eravikulam) National Park.

The park offers a superb view of the tea plantations and is the most important tourist destination. The rolling hills are caressed by blankets of mist and once in 12 years they become a carpet of blue. This is the flowering of Neelakurinji which is a plant endemic to this part of the Western Ghats. The forests here are commonly known as shoals and there are streams here as well. It has the largest untouched patch of Shola, grassland mosaic when compared to others in the Western Ghats.

The national park is divided into three areas - the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. In the tourism area tourists are allowed to travel deep into the forest to explore the hidden beauty. Private vehicles are not allowed inside. Only few mini buses can run inside in order to control the environment pollution. The trips are organized by the forest department.

The park has a rare collection of varieties of trees and shrubs. You can find here climax grasslands. The sight of variety of orchids is one of the specialties of this park.  Birds like black and orange flycatcher, Nilgiri pipit, and the Nilgiri wood pigeon can be spotted here. Also white bellied short wing and Kerala laughing thrush make their home here. A large number of butterflies and moths flit across so be sure to keep a watch. Quite recently a new species of frog was discovered in this park. These animals are limited only to this park and cannot be found elsewhere.

  • It was raining heavily by the time we reach the place. We waited in a queue to get safari ticket and then to get in to the safari vehicle. Privates vehicles are not allowed incise the park. They use their vehicle to drive us through the forest. It was a 15 minute drive, filled with hair pin bends, natural scenarios, wild animals and a falls. They drop us near a view point where we have a decent eatery, information center and a shop. We have to hike a kilometer for the view point. Overall a nice experience, enjoyed the climate and natural beauty.

  • A great place to go for vacation. If you book your tickets in advance it will be easy to enter the park. Spectacular hill views inside the park. Clouds will come near you if you are lucky enough.

  • A lovely place with slight mist and shower.. Where u can walk about 2 km through national park premises . And keep in mind that any action disturbing the peaceful life of wild will cost you lot. Flowered neelakurinji was mind blowing

  • I've visited number of national park and it is the worst. You can have a look of animal Thar by luck which I don't have. And there was a jungle fire in the national park after 2006 the forest is in recovery state. I went there to see neelkurinjani flower which are grown after 12 years. Photos I've found on Google is of 2006. Very few flowers are grown this year, the view was not good. I got the tickets after so many efforts but it was not worth. I found tea plantation and a fall in the route that was nice but not as expected.

  • The city life has a price. You bear pollution, traffic and worst of all greenery has defined to small stretches as if compact is what we should aim at I remember older days when we were able to see green patches but not anymore. In that context, the sooner you enter in the forest area you are amazed by the mesmerizing look. Incredibly picturesque and scenic beauty. You can not restrict to take pictures. If you are a nature lover you surely have a predicament to cover the jungle or take selfie. The forest department is doing amazing job of maintaining the natural habitat. The instructions are clearly given on boards. Thankyou
