Eravikulam National Park - Review

Go through the park, and experience an esteemed walk through wildlife encounter. The animals roam around freely and often venture up close before shying away. Watch playful Bonnet and Lion tailed macaques loop around trees and sturdy Nilgiri goats dart to and fro. Hang out with species of bats and civets, which are small cats. The more predatory animals such as elephants, tigers, panthers and the sloth bear are viewed from afar. All this and much more at the Rajamalai (Eravikulam) National Park.

The park offers a superb view of the tea plantations and is the most important tourist destination. The rolling hills are caressed by blankets of mist and once in 12 years they become a carpet of blue. This is the flowering of Neelakurinji which is a plant endemic to this part of the Western Ghats. The forests here are commonly known as shoals and there are streams here as well. It has the largest untouched patch of Shola, grassland mosaic when compared to others in the Western Ghats.

The national park is divided into three areas - the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. In the tourism area tourists are allowed to travel deep into the forest to explore the hidden beauty. Private vehicles are not allowed inside. Only few mini buses can run inside in order to control the environment pollution. The trips are organized by the forest department.

The park has a rare collection of varieties of trees and shrubs. You can find here climax grasslands. The sight of variety of orchids is one of the specialties of this park.  Birds like black and orange flycatcher, Nilgiri pipit, and the Nilgiri wood pigeon can be spotted here. Also white bellied short wing and Kerala laughing thrush make their home here. A large number of butterflies and moths flit across so be sure to keep a watch. Quite recently a new species of frog was discovered in this park. These animals are limited only to this park and cannot be found elsewhere.

  • One hell of a great natural place .... 😍😍😍 After buying tickets they take you a place and then from where you have to walk to the top to explore. Even you can see falls while on the way in the bus to the top.. The myth they said is true the goat can actually stand the vertical mountain rocksπŸ™πŸ˜πŸ˜ŠπŸ’ͺ, One you start walking to the top you will sucked up to the different world... At the time when I got the there was drizzle always😍, Hope you will have a awesome trip.

  • Awesome place. But nothing much to see. You can just feel the weather and the mist. You can see clouds below and next to you. Entrance fee 95/adult. 70/ child. If possible book the tickets online you won't face any queue. The queue is too much on weekends. The gate closed at 4 pm and opens at 7 30. So better you plan accordingly. Go in the morning or late in the evening. Otherwise any time in between rush is there.

  • Be there to experience. It's extremely beautiful, specially the view from top and it's home to Tahr's. They're endemic to this region. Apart from that, good there enjoy the walk, the view and the awesome atmosphere. Great to bring kids, for a nice relaxing time. Best to book the tickets online and avoid counter rush, also book in the right season.

  • I visited this place in may.... Its nice, cool and plesent.... Perfect place to find peace from your busy schedules... The weather is the one i liked the most... It was foggy in the morning and evening... We saw fer wild animals like wild goat some birds and some special kind of monkeys too.... I love the trip very much

  • Heavy rush this time and returned without getting the pass. The narrow roads with parked vehicles ensure u beat snail. Having reached there they say passes r closed due to heavy rush. No online booking available and city office has only 150 passes per day and issue only on the day of visit at 9. So assume u better queue up early to try luck or return disappointed
