Gun Hill - Review

Falling in the top places to visit at Mussoorie in the row of every Mussoorie tourist guide is the Gun Hill. The most famous attraction in Mussoorie, Gun Hill is the second highest peak of Mussoorie. Gun Hill offers an enchanting view of some of the highest Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri group. The point also offers a picturesque view of Mussoorie town and Doon Valley.

A steep winding path or a cable car from the Mall will lead you to Mussoorie’s second highest peak at 2530m – Gun Hill. The hill derives its name from the fact that in the days of the Raj a cannon was fired here to announce mid-day. Said to be an extinct volcano, Gun Hill offers a panoramic view of several surrounding peaks including Banderpoonch and Nag Tibba which result in excellent photographs especially at sunset.

Gun Hill, Mussoorie Reviews

  • The second highest (2,024m) view point of Mussoorie. Slightly crowded place with a so many shops and food stalls. You can enjoy the summery atmosphere with a fresh and cool breeze with some delicious continental dishes. Some ride are there for kids. The cable car service is there to reach there. In one word an amazing place.

  • Its a good short hike. I will suggest to go for it in early morning. One thing that is a con about the gun hill point is the top. It does not have the serenity of a hill top but is covered by shops which have debarred it from its natural beauty.

  • Peak point of Mussoorie. Can go upto hill top by rope way or by foot. I would suggest one must go by walk way rather choosing rope way. There is huge waiting for rope way tickets. When you reach at top , there is breathtaking view of Himalaya. We were lucky when we reached there , there were lot of clouds. Cool breeze was there in the month of June. Overall must visit place. Tea , coffee & other snacks are available.

  • The Gun Hill is situated on mall Road few kilometers above. It can be visited by Ropeway and also by walking. We chose walking...The walking experience was nice.. while going its all right..but while climbing down.. a few places were steep.. there one has to be careful.. The view from the Top was really good.We could see almost the whole of Mussoorie. Good experience!!!

  • Gun Hill - one of the most visited places amongst the tourist. There are two options for visiting Gun Hill. First, with a Ropeway facility (of course, it would cost you). And second, with your feet means a adventurous Walk. My personal suggestion do visit the place on your feet because If you are young or more into traveling stuff, like expedition, then this walk is a Must. It would take around half an hour to reach at the top and folks, from there you can see the Himalayan range. Moreover, there is a small market on the Top. One can try the famous Garhwali Outfits and can have a photoshoot.
