Nacogdoches is situated roughly equidistant from Dallas, Houston, and Shreveport, Louisiana, in the center of Deep East Texas. Nacogdoches was the first "town" in Texas. With a population of 33,000, Nacogdoches is home to Stephen F. Austin State University and is surrounded by three national forests. Nacogdoches, known for its rivers and trails, is also known as the Garden Capital of Texas. Mast Arboretum, Millard's Crossing Historic Village and Old Stone Fort Museum are the three points of interest in Nachogdoches.
