Oasis 21 - Review
They call this striking-looking building a modern facility, but at its heart it is just a mall. The most famous feature is the roof - a large oval structure made of glass and filled with water with the dual purpose of keeping the mall cool and creating interesting optical phenomena. This has led to the public event and exhibition area directly underneath the roof being called the Milky Way Square and the roof itself is called the Spaceship Aqua. There are a bunch of shops and restaurants at the complex. Nearby is a green lawn and flower garden where you can open find people lounging. There is a bus terminal on the basement floor. Every Saturday morning there is a farmers market.

Oasis 21, Nagoya-shi Reviews
Big shopping centre. When we arrived a jazz band was playing which was really quite good, even though it was Japanese. At the top you can go on the roof and walk around it which has nice views and is right beside the tower. We got asked by a random group of boys to have a photo with us, but not sure if it was because we were foreign? They were nice about it though so we didn't mind.
On an overall view, Oasis21 is an interesting large oval shaped glass structure with area of around 2700 m2, constructed 14 meter above the ground level. About 10 cm depth of water is flowing in the center area of about 1,700m2 and a walking path around the water surface. The walking path around the thin veil of water movement gives a great view and enjoyable strolling experience. But it is also a technically a superb environment friendly structure. The surrounding landscape is covered with lawn, flowering plants, and trees like Cherry, Maple trees to ease the island phenomenon. Rain water harvesting is used for watering the plants. Solar power generation for some of the lighting. The natural light passing through the water, glass structure gives enough natural light and ventilation to cool down the temperature of the below ground space. This ground space is decorated with art objects; used for events and activities. You can use either the steps or elevator to reach the top.
Beautiful shopping area, lots of food places & easy access to train Station. Located right next to Nagoya TV tower. Lots of events happen on the main floor of center each month, sometimes bi-weekly. Top floor has a nice water filled rooftop, which got its name "Oasis".
This was an interesting mall. Even if not shopping there is good food and the architecture is amazing. A must see for anyone in or around Nagoya.
I'm impressed with this futuristic building. One of the Nagoya's landmark, being opened to the public in 2002. This mall has a clothing store, food court, bus terminal and an events place inside which is dubbed the “Milky Way Square”. There are also variety of anime and manga stores in it. At the rooftop named the “Water Spaceship” roof, its fiber glass roofing is filled with water and lights. The top floors are open space, and the incoming breeze are refreshing especially during evenings. It also gives viewers majestic view where almost the entire district can be seen.
