A sacred monument of Buddhism in Nagpur, Deekshabhoomi is a pilgimage center in India. The place holds historical importance since Babasaheb Ambedkar, the chief architect of Indian Constitution, converted to Buddhism at this very place. Every year, thousands of pilgrims flock to the place and convert to Buddhism. Deekshabhoomi is spread over a land of four acres. The architectural type of this monument is ‘stupa’ and is one of the largest of its kind in all of Asia. The stupa is erected as a salute to Babasaheb Ambedkar’s memory. Along with the stupa, Deekshabhoomi includes the Buddha Vihar which has a bronze image of Lord Buddha and the Bodhi tree - a fig tree considered to be sacred. You must visit this place just to witness the stupendous architectural design of the monument and for its historical significance.
