Goddess Naina Devi Temple - Review

Naina Devi temple is one of the 51 Shakti peeths of Hindu religion. Located at the northern end of famous Nainital Lake, the temple has Goddess Naina represented in form of her two eyes. According to Hindu Mythology, this is the place where eyes from the burnt body of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was carrying away her corpse. Since then, the Goddess has been worshipped in the form of eyes at the site. The temple witnesses devotees and tourists in large numbers during the various festivals and fairs.

  • Divine feelings amongst cool breeze. This place is situated at the banks of Naini lake and is a crowded temple. However this is a must go and you will get excellent views of lakes from here. You can buy Prasad outside the temple. A Tibetan market is also there just outside the temple. It's easily accessible and a nice place to visit.

  • I would call it a captivating place... Being the lake to one of it's side and a supermarket to other makes it a prestigious place!! The temple is soo conspicuous and is usually crowded

  • Naina Devi Temple is situated on the bank of Lake Naini. It is well maintained and neat and clean temple. You can view the lake and lots of visitors on colourful boats enjoying boat ride on the lake. Adjacent to the temple, there is Tibbetian market, one can shop there.

  • This temple is well known and popular among visitors. As it is situated adjacent to lake. It is Quite Crowdy on weekends And peak seasons. There is very beautiful market around temple and a gurudware adjacent to it which increases it's beauty. A place worth visiting in nainitaal.

The temple was built-in 15 A.D while the idol was installed in 1842 by devotee named Moti Ram Shah. Temple got demolished in 1880 due to massive landslide but rebuilt again in 1883.
