Considered as a dormant volcano, this 8530 foot hill is said to be the best place to enjoy the tranquil beauty as compared to other popular tourist sites in Sikkim. The hill got its name from the Lepcha dialect which means ‘the upraised horn’. According to the folk stories revolving around the hill, Tendong is a savior in saving the people of Namchi from flood for many times. That’s why, the locals of Namchi still pray to the hill to prevent any natural calamity or flood from the area. The hill is also said to be the resting place for Buddhist Lamas to do meditation.
Tourists usually come for trekking over here to enjoy the panoramic view of the mountains covered with colorful flowers like rhododendron and magnolia and the dense forest.
