This is only a square, and yet the reactions it breeds in the hearts of visitors is overwhelming. They say it could be the most beautiful and grandest public squares in the world. It’s not one square – it’s three - Place de la Carrière and Place d'Alliance are extensions to the original square. Stanislaw I came up with it as a way to link Nancy’s Old Town to its newer neighbourhoods. Historically, the place has always been a place for festivities and assemblies. Some of the sights at the square are:
- The City Hall of Nancy (Hotel de Ville)
- The Prefecture of Meurthe-et-Moselle at the South-East corner
- The Opera-Theatre
- The Grand Hotel
- The Fine Arts Museum
- The Pavillon Jacquet
- The Arc de Triomphe
- The Statue of Stanislas
- Ornate fountains at the North-West and North-East corners
- The gilded gates
There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. Find somewhere to settle down and watch the crowds go by. Everything here is utterly gorgeous, even and especially at night, when everything is lit up.
- A.k.a Place Stan
- Tram 1 stop Cathedrale
- Take a car or rent a taxi

Gorgeous, breath-taking covered with autumn flowers. Take a glass of wine in one of the restaurants to admire the beauty of this square.
One of the finest Rococo squares in all of Europe, and a gem of 1750s urban planning, well-maintained, and a highlight of any trip to Nancy. A favorite spot for locals, as evidenced by the fact that it is the site or focal point for many if not most civic events or celebrations throughout the calendar year. Often likely that something is going on there no matter when you visit Nancy. Not to be missed when in town, and especially the case for first-time visitors to this one-time capital of the Duchy of Lorraine.
Light show was incredible we were lucky to catch it and it did not disappoint
A beautiful place full of life and events all year long
Clean and quiet square. Nice view and beautiful fountain and buildings. Well maintained.
