Nanjing Tourism

The capital of the eastern province of Jiangsu, Nanjing is a culturally and historically important city in China- being the main capital before Beijing. It has a population of 8.16 million and is one of the most developed cities in the country.

One of the earliest cities to be established, it remained the imperial capital for six dynasties. This only changed in October, 1949 with the creation of People's Republic of China. Nanjing is a city that has seen a lot of progress with the construction of its walls, temples and bridges. But it has also seen great human rights violation in the form of the Nanjing Massacre of 1937.

Nanjing is famous for its monuments that have both national and historic importance, such as the Sun Yatsen Mausoleum; its temples and natural surroundings like the Purple Mountain, Qinhuai River and the Xuanwu Lake.
