Dating from 1686, Jethro Coffin House is considered as the oldest residential place on Nantucket Hill. Perched on the Sunset Hill, Jethro Coffin House is famous for its simple yet fascinating construction. The house was originally built as a wedding gift to Mary Gardener and Jethro Coffin and was seen as the symbol of the union of these two oldest families in Nantucket. However, by the late 19th century, the house fell into disrepair and led to abandonment. The house earned fame as a National Historic Place in 1968 and today, it stands as a monument that celebrates the lives of old English settlers.
