Church Road Winery - Review

Wine, marriage and meat; that’s an unusual combination to be sure, but this winery, one of Napier’s oldest, manages to pull it off just fine. Definitely check out the winery tours followed up by the Bay Platter, a selection of the finest meat and produce from around Hawkes Bay. Romance wise, the organisers have put in good effort at sprucing up the place with pretty gardens, a portico, a terrace and the Cuve Room. It helps that the museum walls are all covered in tartrate crystals, giving the place a very fairy-tale-like appearance. These very elements are also why the Winery is an excellent place to hold any other events you might care to, and that includes concerts. Of the tours offered, the day cycling tours seem to be greatly loved by most tourists.

Lush green gardens, delicious wines and sound beautiful surrounding, the place has it all. There is no entry fee to visit the place which means no Church Road Winery Tickets or Church Road Winery Ticket Prices. Though the place has no Church Road Winery Ticket Costs, the prices for wines and other events need to be paid and may vary greatly. Ensure to stop by for a while during your New Zealand visit and gear up for a delightful time.

  • Lovely property and atmosphere. They don't make their wines here so what you see are for decorative purposes. Tasting options come in 3 tiers, $5, $10 and $15 depending on the range of wines you wish to taste. We didn't dine here but that seemed popular too.

  • Lovely wines and views. Rated 4 stars because of the delightful service from Kay at the tasting counter and Sue who looked after our cheese platter and warm blankets for sitting outside. Only downside was as we were leaving we were looked after by a third lady and billed an extra $20. Half of this was 'incorrectly' added for our tasting fees and should never have been included as we purchased a bottle of wine, but I had to awkwardly ask for it to be removed. The other $10 was for having two glasses out of the bottle of wine we had just purchased alongside our cheese platter. Fair enough if you have a service charge, but at least let the customers know rather than sneaking it onto the cost of the bottle (listed as $37 not $27) on our bill. Had we known we would have at least had the option to buy a glass of wine each and take the unopened bottle home.

  • Can't speak highly enough of the staff! Our family arrived unknowingly at a rather awkward time of day...just as staff were getting ready for a wedding party to arrive. They assured us it was not a problem and in fact bent over backwards to make us feel welcome. They chatted to us about their amazing wines and even gave us various ones to sample with our amazing nibbles platter. Deb was an absolute legend and looked after us really well and gave us tourists some ideas on where to visit while in the Hawkes Bay. The place and staff are amazing. I would totally recommend visiting here and sampling the food and wine to everyone.

  • Beautiful winery with fast service and friendly staff. Wines weren't to my taste but I had a nice experience. Worth a visit for sure.

  • Absolutely amazing! We were a large group of 12 who did a wine tasting with Mary. On busy Easter weekend she was so lovely to us and not phased at all by such a large group. Beautiful location also. Highly recommend!! We love Mary!!
