Of the many churches in Naples this is relatively new - it was built only in 1904. The architecture is Romanesque and Eclectic, reminiscent of the early Christian churches in the city, of which very few traces remain. The church was built on the location where the liquefaction of the blood of San Gennaro in an ampoule was first witnessed. The visual texture of the church is striking, with contrasting patterns of brick placements and a variety of materials. Check out the many sculptures, paintings, mosaics, and bas reliefs.
