Castel Dell Ovo - Review

Set against the ever in motion background of the sea in Naples, this lovely castle is worth more than a regard. The medieval castle which has the name egg castle is perhaps the oldest building of its sort in the Naples. Damaged several times, the castle has in a way lived up to its name as the egg castle.

The building is now mostly used for exhibitions and events. Although one cannot go in unless for an exhibitions, which are certainly unique and interesting, it is worthwhile to visit the fort for spectacular views of the bay of Naples. Quite an interesting place to visit, do add it to your tour of the bay of Naples.

Also, visit nearby attractions which are covered in Naples itinerary 7 days.

Castel Dell Ovo, Naples Reviews

  • At the outskirts of the Naples port, this castle functioned clearly as a fortress. We were impressed by the effort made to keep it in good shape and preserve it's original state. It's a busy attraction so make sure you come with time to cue. In the neighbourhood you will find a very nice set of shops as well. Tip: it's best to visit at the end of the day, as it becomes quieter. Do bring sunscreen lotion in the summer it be scorching hot.

  • Very casual place. Lots of spots to take great photos and to just hang out to relax. Outside there are lots of food choices. Wear good shoes and bring water. You may hire a tour guide right outside if you would like to learn more and take your time.

  • Great opportunity to see an ancient fortress an to study about history of the city and the port. Building is in a really good condition. Inside it some contemporary art exhibitions take place. The view from the fortress is amazing! Nice place and absolutely must see being in Naples

  • Free art exhibits at the time of visit. Good hike! Splendid seascape & cityscape views at the top. Excellent sea breeze in the summer. Picturesque hot spot.

  • Don't get me wrong. Its a nice old castle. There is simply nothing special about it. There is a nice view on the bay and Vesuvio but the view isn't worse from the shore. There is nothing to sightsee in the castle itself and you will be accosted a lot by the street sellers on the way to the castle. The entrance is free so you can check for yourself but don't lose your time getting here if you haven't seen other parts of Naples. In my humble opinion, its simply not worth it.
