Under the heavily populated district of the Stella district are an ancient necropolis. There has been a gravesite here since the 5th century BC, but the current name comes from St. Gaudiosus, who was interred here roughly nine centuries later, in 453 AD. The walls of the catacombs are frescoed with early Christian symbols from this time, the most famous of which are the fresco of Pascentius and the fresco of Madonna della Sanita. Landslides and mudslides in the Late Middle Ages led to the abandonment of the complex, though in the 17th century nobles and clergy were buried here for some time.

A point on the map you shouldn't miss. The guide offered some very interesting details on the grounds ans Naples itself. Very good for 1-2hrs visit when the sun is burning or when the weather is bad. The fact that these are 'ran' by an NGO made by young people pf Naples is very impressive.
This place is awesome. The whole catacombs have a very dense history, with a lot of useful information. The crew are super cool: they have 2 tours at a time, one in Italian and one in English. Our guide, Giulia, was very fluent in at least 3 languages; very helpful, devoted and cute too. Can recommend even more if you're more interested in history than an average tourist
Must visit if you are in Naples! Really interesting and shocking. You buy a ticket that includes a guided visit and you can visit also the catacombs of San Gennaro.
Really enjoyed this. It was a much more intimate tour than San Genaro (which was also great, don't get me wrong, and your entrance fee/ticket gets you into the other for free by the way). I'd highly recommend. Guide was very knowledgeable, and the church was definitely worth a look also.
Must have, when you visit Napoli! Very interesting. You can use ticket in other catacombs San Genaro
