There is much to see in the 14th century church, though it does not really impress from the outside. It used be one of the largest monastic complexes in the city. It had two major makeovers - Renaissance in the 16th century, Baroque in the 17th. The highlights are include the original gothic touches in the tomb of Domenico Fontana, the innumerable frescoes and paintings in the many chapels, tombs of the Scala military family, various other monumental tombs, exquisite sculptures including the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, and majolica tiled floor above the the sacristy of Vasari, and the incredible terracotta Pieta by Guido Mazzoni.
In the square outside, see the late-Baroque monumental fountain Fontana di Monteoliveto.

Fantastic medieval church. It was perfectly preserved and the amazing artwork inside is immaculate. Centrally located in Naples so it's very easy to find and enjoy. Definitely a not-to-be-missed.
This church is wonderful monument of medieval culture and architecture. You are going to find there splendid sepulchers of local aristocracy. Many tombs have effigies of deceased in full suits of armor. You have to buy a ticket to get in. Visitors are allowed to take non commercial photo without flash light.
Nice church with gorgeous sacristy. Church is free but you have to pay for the sacristy. (It is worth it!)
One of the most beautiful churches in Naples with wonderful artworks, including the extraordinary sacristy with frescoes by Giorgio Vasari.
A helpful staff has pointed out significant historical and art pieces.
