Via San Gregorio Armeno is a road in the heart of Naples, known worldwide as the best place of the exhibition of cribs (Nativity scenes which are a specialty of Naples). Most of the exhibitions are conducted during the Christmas Season from November to January 6. A wide range of cribs is displayed during these days. Via San Gregorio Armeno is home to the famous church of the same name.
The street gives an essence of Greek Urban Construction and serves as the connection between two plateiai: the major plateiai and the minor plateia. The two main roads of the old Neapolis are connected perpendicularly. The road is also known as the “plaetia nostriana”. It is said that Saint Nostriano, the fifteenth Bishop of Naples built the baths for the poor.
The Main attraction the street is of course the cribs. Each year the skilled craftsmen come here to sell their fascinating wares. During the Christmas a huge number of tourists come to this street to see the figurines and during this time the street becomes very busy.
Also, visit nearby attractions which are covered in Naples itinerary 5 days.
- Apart from the Christmas Time, the best time for visiting this street is September- November. This time the craftsmen start their preparation to display their artistic creations.
- Entry is free.
