Nara Tourism

Nara is the capital of Nara Prefecture and is located in the Kansai region of Japan. Information you will find in almost all the Nara tourist guides is that, back in the 700s, Nara was Japan's first permanent capital. It was established in the year 710 and was the country’s capital till the year 794.

Located less than an hour’s distance from the cities of Kyoto and Osaka, Nara is usually visited on a day trip from these cities.  Due to its past as the first permanent capital, Nara tourism remains full of historic treasures, including some of Japan's oldest and largest temples.
