Belmont Mansion will be one of the most memorable during your trip to Nashville. As you approach the mansion, you have to ring the doorbell for the tour. This request is very intimate and unique, makes you think you are visiting someone’s home. This magnificent mansion is situated on the campus of the Belmont University. It is the crown of the quadrangle of college buildings surrounded by stunning grounds. In the past it had a greenhouse, bear house and bowling alley.

The moving spirit behind Belmont Mansion is Adelicia Hayes Franklin Acklen Cheatham. She was married thrice and she was a woman ahead of her time. If you are interested in Civil War history, antebellum homes or the lives of those who lived in that era then Belmont is a must see.

Today her home is used as a tool to help students understand life in the mid-19th century. Belmont Mansion is the largest house museum in Tennessee which revolves around the life of a woman. On the tour, you will visit the following:

  • Visited the Belmont Mansion in a recent trip to Nashville. The home tour was great, my husband and I ended up being the only ones on our tour but the guide mentioned they cap the number so each tour is still small enough to hear and see everything. The story of Adelicia and her life was great, the many artifacts and original pieces made the tour even more interesting. It was raining so we didn't have a chance to visit the grounds but the home tour was my favorite historic/museum attraction on our trip.

  • Great historic home tour. The standard tour leaves every 30 minutes and lasts about one hour. Adelicia was an interesting woman! The Mansion is closing Jan 2019 for flooring restoration in the grand salon. I can't wait to see what it looks like when they are finished!

  • Amazing place! Well worth the visit! Hosts we're very knowledgeable. Would love to be able to tour some of the other spaces in the home, like the kitchen, in the basement.

  • I really loved the house and all of the work done on it to show it’s beauty. The tour was very fun and I enjoyed the history of the family. However, I think that our guide didn’t tell us much about the family history before the lady that lived there, and didn’t explain many features of the house. I wonder what is on the third floor, we didn’t get to see it.

  • A really neat place if you want to learn about the history of the town and the mansion itself. We went while they were restoring the original floors and wow that was cool.
