Loved the open air feel and live music. We sat in the bar area and had after dinner drinks. Service could have been better, as we had to flag down a waiter every time we wanted something - they never stopped to check on us. However, it was typically easy to get their attention and the drinks were good. While most venues in this area had full live bands, it was nice change of pace to see just an acoustical guitar player and singer here.
Decent barbecue. Having been through Nashville before, Kansas City many times, and St. Louis as well, I've had a bit of barbecue. Jack's was good, but not great, and the next time I go to Nashville I will be going back to the Pegged Leg Porker. The brisket was good, but perhaps a little dry. The ribs, which I was very surprised were St. Louis style, were OK, but there was no char, and no big flavor to them. The smoked sausage was the best meat I had. Mac and cheese was fine, hard to screw that up, and I enjoyed the apples. The cornbread was awful, dry, no flavor. I thought the sauces were good, but good barbecue should need no sauce to moisten it, only to add some tang and spice when you want it. 3 stars for good service, and decent food, especially considering the high volume they see.
Sorry, but I have to be a minority opinion on this one! I'd read the reviews and had high hopes, but it was mediocre at best. Atmosphere is funny and fun but that was the only real strength. Outrageous parking is not Jack's fault, but started things off badly. We paid $18 to park in a nearby lot for one hour. Perhaps there are better lots; we didn't find them. The wait to order wasn't too bad... Just ten minutes, but we hadn't find seating yet and took it on faith would be able to stand a table upstairs. An unfriendly line worker served me a very generous portion of brisket and passed my plate on down for green beans and corn. I also ordered a saran-wrapped piece of the chess pie for dessert. My colleagues both ordered ribs. The brisket was dried out, over-cooked, and the rub tasted like, well, rub! The green beans had a little heat to them, which would have been okay, but they were so salty I could not eat them. I took them back downstairs and after checking with a manager, the cashier allowed me a serving of mac and cheese instead. It was very good. The corn was creamy style and tasted a little like canned creamed corn, but it was good. Reports on the ribs were positive. The chess pie, usually a favorite of mine, was way too sweet and poor consistency. My grandmother would turn over in her grave. A plus was the upstairs drink station so you could get your own sOda, tea, or water, without having to wait for a waiter or hike downstairs. One unisex restroom for the entire upstairs seemed barely adequate. Overall, a disappointing evening.
Came in from out of town and many people said this was the best Nashville BBQ around. Didn't disappoint. Love the cafeteria style service and the food was great. I ordered the beef brisket was mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. I don't normally get gravy on the potatoes but even that was great. We ate on the second floor patio to enjoy the weather and get away from the larger crowds downstairs. Love this place!
This restaurant is a cafeteria style restaurant, you go through a Line tell them the meat you want and sides and then pay. My boyfriend said his meal was pretty good(he got the brisket) but I didn't really enjoy my meal. I got smoked turkey, mac and cheese and a cucumber salad. The smoked turkey had bubbles in it like the kind you see in processed lunch meat, it was salty and almost tasted like ham. I wasn't a fan and couldn't eat it, the mac and cheese was better but the cheese tasted like it was from a can or jar so I didn't eat much of that either. The cucumber salad was really good, vinegary and yummy, but overall I wasn't a fan and left pretty hungry. Maybe just order the brisket.
