About Pandavleni Caves, Nasik

The Pandavleni caves are a group of 24 caves which were carved between the 3rd and 2nd Century AD. This is definitely a beautiful place to visit. There are quite a few mountaineers and trekkers who frequent the place, especially during the early morning hours. There are steps which lead to the caves. However, some caves are interconnected by stone-cut ladders. While some caves are quite large and possess a few chambers within, there are some which are smaller and intimate. The main cave or the ‘Chaitya’ (prayer hall) is the best of all the caves as it has a beautiful Stupa located within.

Interesting sculptures can be found within. In fact, these viharas served as the meeting ground for a group of Buddhist disciples who would share sermons and meet one another. There are water tanks which have been carved out of the solid rock – a reason why the site has an excellent water management system.

  • Great place to visit. The caves are really impressive. The whole area is not very touristy, and it is very safe. A great place for a foreign tourist to experience without much hassle. The caves adjoin a couple of parks, one free and one paid. One can climb above the caves, to the top of the mountain for great views.

  • If you are around Nashik and have 2-3 hrs of time. This is a good place to visit. These are Buddhist caves. It takes around 15 minutes to get you on the top of the hill. There is a good parking space available. Evening is good time for visit. Avoid this place during hot summer..

  • Morning place to visit for exercising and refreshing your mood. Come with family, friends it is a nice place to spend your time. If you visit Nashik then I strongly recommend you to visit Pandavleni. These are amazing caves located on mountain about 270 steps to go up. You can catch up almost full view of Nashik city from the Top of this point. Almost dated 2000 yrs ago this place has a group of 24 caves carved. As per the information these caves are one of the oldest caves of Maharashtra.

  • Nice and serene place for a tiny hike. One can get a beautiful aerial view of Nashik city from top. Several ruins of Buddhist caves offers pleasant silence. Good for photography.

  • Nice place over the mountain. Should be good to visit in any season. Please note there are 170+ steps to reach to caves. Can be difficult to reach to top if you have kids with you. Have some snacks and water bottle with you.
