Pandavleni Caves - Review

The Pandavleni caves are a group of 24 caves which were carved between the 3rd and 2nd Century AD. This is definitely a beautiful place to visit. There are quite a few mountaineers and trekkers who frequent the place, especially during the early morning hours. There are steps which lead to the caves. However, some caves are interconnected by stone-cut ladders. While some caves are quite large and possess a few chambers within, there are some which are smaller and intimate. The main cave or the ‘Chaitya’ (prayer hall) is the best of all the caves as it has a beautiful Stupa located within.

Interesting sculptures can be found within. In fact, these viharas served as the meeting ground for a group of Buddhist disciples who would share sermons and meet one another. There are water tanks which have been carved out of the solid rock – a reason why the site has an excellent water management system.

Pandavleni Caves, Nasik Reviews

  • Good place for history and archeology lovers.. this place will suit kids and family as will.. if are good in playing any musical instruments try in out here it will sound very pleasant.. you should climb at least 200 steps to reach the cave.. it has 24 caves with Buddha and Siva idol.. this place could have maintained even better....

  • Good place, near from nashik city You can go their with your friends, family or colleague. Easy to reach caves not too hard. Good view of city from top of hill. In rainy season is best time to go.

  • I have been to many cave structures and this is yet another, but what sets it apart is that it is extremely well preserved and in a unique setting. A flight of stairs leads up the mountain wall to the caves that have been carved out of solid rock surfaces somewhere midway to the top. the structure has everything that a large set of monks in those times would have needed to stay and go about their daily riturals. Wells dug into the rock, that supply fresh water, living quarters, prayer rooms, statues of Buddha in various forms and sizes. All this was achieved thru sheer hard labour and with little or no tools. The best part being that the architecture and design has withstood the test of times, with almost 2000 years going by and virtually no damage to the structures. It is a must visit to admire, thank and feel proud of those noblemen and women who built this marvel and left it for all mankind that followed.

  • Very nice place. The caves are not as great as Aganta or not well maintained but for sure they give sense of that period. It's favorite outing place for nearby morning walkers so if you go early in the morning, it will save you some money and you can enjoy cool breeze
