Pfaueninsel is declared as world heritage site by UNESCO and it serves as a perfect destination for day–trippers. Most part of the Island is covered by woodlands that comprises of fields and lawns. The protected area ranges up to a distance of 98 hectares. It is historically significant as in the 17th century this island was called Rabbit Island.
